Recycling Guidelines

DO recycle papers and cardboard. 

DO recycle cans and plastics 1 and 2*.

DO rinse plastics and cans before recycling.

DON'T recycle Styrofoam, liquid and food waste, straws, or plastics 3-7*.

*Look on bottom of container for plastic #.

Recycling Locations

For your convenience, several recycling dumpsters are located across campus where you can drop off accepted recyclable materials. Please place only recyclables in these containers to help prevent contamination and support our campus recycling efforts.

Recyling Data

Mississippi State University contracts with Waste Pro for recycling collection.  Collection data, including contamination percentages, are reported annually.

Glass Recycling

The Office of Sustainability hosts a biannual glass recycling drive to further advance our recycling efforts.  Mississippi State has collected more than 55,000 pounds of glass since 2018, including a school record of 8,250 pounds in 2024.
